We offer a one hour beginner ride around our farm. The terrain is interesting and you will see a number of fascinating plant species of Namaqualand. Experience the novelty of mountain climbing on the backs of our safe horses. The two hour ride is for the slightly more experienced rider as we ride over neighbouring farms enjoying awesome vistas and the feeling of wild open spaces.
Meet us in Goegap Nature Reserve where you will be introduced to your horse. We usually start at 9am but this is weather dependent and subject to change. You will ride amongst the Oryx, Springbuck, Mountain Zebra as well as smaller mammals such as the Black-backed Jackal, Bat-eared fox, Baboon, Whistling Rat, Aardwolf and Aardvark. There are many raptors as well as other birds in the reserve. We treat you to a picnic lunch in the veld whilst enjoying stunning Namaqualand views. This ride is about 6 hours duration (depending on riding ability) including the lunch break. The length of the ride may be varied according to riding ability and rider weight. Sorry, but we do not take beginner riders on this ride.
We offer trail rides starting at weekend rides to 10-day long trails. The distances covered daily vary roughly from 30km's to 45km's. The longer the trail, the more experienced the riders need to be, and their level of fitness needs to be relative to the number of days booked. Our season is ideally April to October, August being the most popular month as the chances of seeing the Namaqualand flowers in all their glory is the highest. We offer trails with nights spent at guest houses and trails with nights spent rough camping under the stars. All trails are fully catered.
Our most popular trail and a perfect 'first' trail for riders wanting to learn about trails or just wanting a wonderful, relaxing time in nature on horseback.
We meet you at Goegap Nature Reserve, pack your personal luggage into the back-up vehicle and introduce you to your horse. We ride in the nature reserve for the full 3 days and you will see Oryx, Springbuck, Mountain Zebra as well as a host of smaller mammals. The bird life is prolific and the plants have a fascination all of their own. There are natural springs in the reserve where we water the horses. Each night is spent in Goegap Nature Reserve's Bush Camp. We ride out from there each morning and each day after lunch. The space and size of the reserve allows for long trots and long canters. Our horses are expert mountain climbers and we treat you to their skills regularly. We all enjoy a braai under the stars each evening whilst listening to the sound of happy horses eating and Jackals calling in the distance.
